Mixed Media Madness {Love This & That}
Posted: June 28, 2013 Filed under: Uncategorized 4 CommentsSo on the ScrapFX blog today, my layout has joined those of a few of my teammates, as we interpret a fun sketch by the super talented Claire. I wanted to take a step back from my Hawaii photo obsession, and use something a little different, so I visited Haley’s Facebook page, and nabbed several of her edited selfies. She did this “whirling” set of 4 about 3 years ago. I thought it was cute, and the colors gave me lots of opportunities for style interpretation.
I stayed pretty true to the sketch with the design, but added several things, obviously. I took 3 papers that I had chopped up for other layouts, and added them together for this one. Of course, there was gesso and paint, and mist involved….and that gorgeous stencil.
I didn’t really know what to title this, as this was my kiddo’s selfie. She was probably not thinking much….other than “Do I look interesting?” I can’t really interpret it, but it’s pretty carefree. So I thought the ampersand would be fun to toss on there, all misted up (teal and black). I used the Um Wow Studio flair that says ” Love this” (because I do, it’s so my kid),
The hash corner ScrapFX chip adds that perfect bit of grunginess and dimension. Speaking of dimension……..the photo is sitting on TWO layers of Helmar Zap Dots. Two. It’s waaaay up off the page, so that I could fit that huge button and chipboard circle underneath. getting it level was a trick. 😉
Finally, I embellished the top corner, using more Um Wow flair, and some Donna Downey banner pieces, and some thread that I tossed to the side, after I goofed something while sewing. Recycling at it’s best.
If I may say, this is one of my new favorite projects. I had an amazing time creating this, and I put it out on display. It’s really what I’ve been working toward for a while. I guess all of those mistakes added up to something I am satisfied with!
Thanks so much for popping by. I’m so happy to share with you today, and hope you have a lovely weekend.

Super digging the hash tag!!! Just ordered a stamp from Kaiser that is similar but I think the chippie is so much more dramatic and cool! Gotta love your style Amy!! Always look forward to your posts!!!!
I love that big ampersand! I haven’t heard of that flair brand before … much nicer than some of the insipid looking ones I collected while part of a kit club. Much more my taste. I can see why this one has become one of your new favs. When my son got his first camera I started an album on FB with the strange things I found on it when I downloaded the photos for him. Even way back then he was using the timer and taking ‘selfies’! I think photos like that really let their personality shine through.
I love your play on words! it’s awesome… And you totally Rocked It!
WOWZER!! love this layout!
